The view of its ancient roofs alone is enough to attract you to Sarlat, a village nestling in the small valley between the Dordogne and the Vézère rivers. A stroll through its narrow streets is an open book revealing a thousand years of architecture, dominated above all by this pale-coloured warm stone from the paving stones to the roof tiles. The Périgord region can boast, for its area, the largest number of prehistoric and natural caves, chateaux, manors and country houses in the world.
